May 24th Fishing Report
Water Temps are bouncing between 65 and 70 deg and the Gill action is at its peek. The eggs in the females are soft and the fish are on the beds. The crappie action is slowed in the shallow water but starting to pick up on some of the deeper wood. Crappie are scattered in 4 to 12 feet of water. The walleye bite is still slow during the day but mornings and evenings are best. Walleye are starting on leeches more then minnows as well. The northern action has been almost as hot as the panfish. Look for the northern around weeds using spinners, stickbaits or swimbaits. The musky opener is this weekend, be aware that the state size limit is now 40" but a few select area lakes are 28" (Butternut, Solberg and Squaw). Also for the live bait fishermen, you must use a quick set rig or non offset circle hook when using Musky sized suckers. The
Good Luck on the water.
