    Default Boat requirements

    Hi Everyone,

I am taking my boat up into Ontario for a few days of fishing and wanted to see if anyone knew about the following questions or where I could find out:

    1) To cross the border with your boat do you need any forms filled out or specific info?

2)Do I need a “pleasure craft operator” license? In this link I don’t think I need one because I will be less than 45 days? Not sure.

3)If I have all the safety equipment that is required in the US do I need anything
    special for Ontario?

4)Other than no alcohol in the boat is there anything else I need to know?

    Thanks

There are a couple Items that Canada requires that some states do not.

    Make sure to have:
    1. Proof of Insurance for your boat
    2. Bailing bucket
    3. 50' throw rope with a floatable device on the end
    4. Flashlight
    5. I think whistle but I am not sure on this one for Ontario

Don't freak out about getting a big fancy stuff to meet these requirements, Canadian Tire (Department Store in Canada) sells a kit that has all of this in about the size of a quart jar. Herbie has these kits in his lodge boats.

    Just to clarify:

    1) A regular flashlight is OK? (Not a floating flashlight)

    2) Is a coffee can the same thing as a bailing bucket?

    3) Is my USCG approved throwable an adequate floatable device to go with my 50' rope?

    I appreciate it.
