Huge Largemouth with Gramps

Having nothing planned for yesterday aside from an MRI for my lower back in the afternoon, I called my Grandpa to see if he wanted to get on the water. He was eager to get out so I ran over to his house to fish largemouth and crappies on a nearby lake. It was a beautiful morning driving past the farms and woods and were interupted by a black bear that wanted to cross the road in front of us. It got me very jazzed up as I begin baiting bear for my tag next week.

We arrived at the lake and started fishing crappies for a few minutes with no success. Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to switch to largemouth and pulled out a whacky rigged Senko, a great choice for a cool morning. Only a couple casts into things, my line screamed for deep water. I reared back on my Gander Mtn Tournament GSX 7'MH and here we go. Unaware of the quality of the largemouth in the lake, I flipped when I saw my fish! First bass of the day, a 21.75"!!! Wow, that was awesome.

Grandpa too got pretty energized about that one as it reminded us of the days we spent together when he owned a private stocked bass lake. So I gave him one of my bass rods and put the crappie stick down. It would be only minutes and he would be into his first bass, a 20.5"!!! We were without a doubt beside ourselves! Over the five hours on the water, with the lake to ourselves and bass that acted like they've never seen a lure, we caught 36 largemouth with 4 over 20"! It was perfect weather and the best imaginable way to ever spend time with someone who spent so much time with me in the outdoors as a child.

Wow, nice fish! Were these on normal techniques or the Sloan technique?

I think if we review the tape on that one it would be the "Gaiche Technique". Actually we got them whacky rigging Senkos on deep weed edges.
