Thread: Trolling Kinkaid?

  1. #1

    Question Trolling Kinkaid?

When is the best time to start trolling suspended musky in deep water on Lake Kinkaid?

If I locate schooling shad, should I keep trolling over them?

What is a good trolling speed?

Is the south end of the lake better to troll in the fall/winter?

    Thanks for the help.

    Default Fall Trolling

Start trolling now and keep on till the end of the year.

Most people will tell you to stick to the schools of shad. My opinion is slightly different. I like to concentrate on structure not baitfish, mostly deep points, deep humps or deep bluff walls.

3 to 4 mph is usually best this time of year. In Illinois you can troll with 3 rods per person. I like to run one lure at 8 to 10' down, one at 15 to 20' down and another one really deep, 25' to 30'. I like to use really large lures (10" to 14") this time of year but some guys will disagree with that.

Main lake up to Cohcran has been the best for me but some guys catch fish all the way up north.

Make sure you check the rules and regs for the lake you are on ... as far as the number of rods per person. Kinkaid is 3 per, but most lakes in Illinois are 2 rods per person.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the scoop guys. This will be a big help. I had no idea you could troll 3 rods per person on Kinkaid! Should increase my chances a bit.
