25/20 outboard jet question???

My river rig is a Lowe 1448 with a Johnson 20 HP that has been jetted aftermarket. I get like 12MPH upriver with two guys, probably 15 MPH by myself.

Any you guys have a similar set up boat with an actual 25/20 factory jet and if so what kind of top end speed are you getting? Alone? Two people? Loaded with muskie gear?

I'm thinking of upgrading the motor, I'm fine with the boat. Sure a complete setup that is bigger would be nice but can't really afford it with my other boat payment...lol.....would be nice to get a slightly bigger motor and sell mine and not be out much $$$.

I see guys running the river with those motors sometimes. I'll ask them what kind of speed they get if I see them out. How much would you be looking to spend on a larger motor?

My previous river boat was a 16 foot alumacraft v-hull with a tiller handle 2-stroke 1999 Mercury Factory Jet 25/20 and the fastest I think I've ever had it was about 13mph. It would probably go 2 or 3mph faster on a 14' boat.

Thanks guys, I just got a reply from Red too, his starter river racer was a 14' set up and he said 16 MPH with 2 guys and gear. So falls in line with a the 12 MPH on a 16 foot boat.

Be nice to hit 20, might be able to do that alone. Not sure if it be worth it or not to upgrade for that little of an increase?
