non hooking baits

How many of you have poor hooking baits. I have a creeper(huge) Frenchy made for me 30 years ago that could never hook a fish. They would smash the bait bending the wings back but I would never actually catch the fish. I kept using the bait because big fish loved it but finally had to quit using because they always got off. I even had a big fish kill it and get off and after bending wings straight I cast back and she hit it again and of course it got off again. I have more poor hookers but this one was by far the worst. So do any of you have similar baits and experiences??

I had the same problem with a huge homemade creeper a few years ago. I don't throw that one anymore either.
