Default "Public fishing ground" on Highway 52 between Wausau & Antigo?

I have driven a number of times on State Highway 52 between Wausau and Antigo and noticed the large, brown wooden sign where the Plover River crosses that says "Plover River Public Fishing Ground." However, it does not appear from the roadway that there is any parking lot, any clearing or even any decent river access at this point. The nearest road off of Highway 52 is also quite a distance away. Is there something off the roadway that you cannot see from the road or something nearby that makes up this "Public Fishing Ground?" Or is this sign just a large, misleading marker for the small Plover River crossing? Just curious as I have seen the sign many times.

I'll take a look in the next week or two, I'm doing some bear baiting over there.

    Default The hidden spot

If you are traveling west to east on hwy 52, just before you go over the bridge where that sign is located, there is a trail that is like 1 car wide that goes to the north.
If you drive into that trail, there is a parking spot that you can park in and then walk to the Plover river to fish.
This spot has in the past been known to be pretty good for spring trout.
You will see the walking trails to the river from the parking lot.
