Cisco Chain 2009

A friend of mine at work has fished the Cisco Chain with some success in the fall. I got myself a map and it does seem quite interesting. I typically only get 1 week long trip per year and I haven't been doing too well over the past 5 years or so in the states. My question are: 1) What would be the best time of year (between late June and early September) to be on the chain to experience good musky action as well as fill-in walleye / bass fishing. 2) What are the typical techniques / structures at this time?

Hi Eric,
What your asking has about a million possibilities, but I’ll try to help ya out a bit here. As far as the time zone your talking from late June, the waters are still warming up and some of the musky are at the end of their post spawn period where as in early September they are starting getting all jumbled up because many waters are starting to get cloudy with early turnover. When you get a fairly close time zone as to when you want to take your fishing vacation, feel free to give me a call at the shop and I’ll be able to tell ya what lakes are biting better than others. What fishing guides are hot and what lures are hot for that time of year. In June and July I use completely different baits than I use at the end of summer and September.
As far as looking for fill in walleye and bass, it depends on what lake you would like to fish out there on the chain. Some of the lakes are fantastic for the eater size walleye while others are a bit trickier but hold a high percentage of massive wall hangers.
From the time zone your talking, I’d personally pick after Labor Day. The reason being that the bulk of the tourists are gone so there is far less water-skiers on the lakes and for the most part there are only a few people out fishing any given lake so you won’t feel as though your out there in an army of fishermen.
