Driving to Washington Island?

Few guys at work asked me to post a question:

Has anyone drove there ATV's, Snowmoblies or Trucks to Washington Island from the Michigan side? Preferably leaving Escanaba area.

Yeah they are nutz but they want to take their ATV's there for the night.

Caught a couple eater perch on sunday, not bad for getting a late start and heading home for the race. Nothing to brag about though.

I've never heard of anyone doing that, here's a recent satellite picture showing the area. Lots of open water around Washington Island, with small chunks blowing out with each west wind. I definitely would not take the chance.
