Area Fishing Report 6-14-2010

Hello Everyone, this is Cathy from Aquatic Arts Fishing Pro Shop right here in Tomahawk. The cool, rainy weather doesn't seem to want to leave us just yet, so keep your rainjackets out.
The Northern Pike have been reacting great to this cool weather , they remain very active on most all area lakes. They have been hammering a variety of lures lately, including Mepps #5, Large Spinnerbaits, Floating Rapalas, and Rattling Spooks. If you prefer to use live bait for Pike, try a Walleye Sucker or Redtail Chub on a 1/4oz jighead. Fish along weededges and near drop offs, 4-8 ft of water.
Another species doing great irregardless of the weather conditions are Perch. Local fisherman have been catching Jumbo perch on the area river systems. Baby crawlers on a 1/16 to 1/4 oz orange weedless jighead have been working best. Fish weedbeds in 3-5 ft of water. Also, small Mepps spinners, size 1-2 are hot.
The bass bite has slowed down significantly here in the Northwoods. They don't seem to want to work as hard for their food.They are still hitting spinnerbaits near the weed edges and lily pads. If you aren't having much luck, try a slower presentation with plastic worms, live crawlers, or topwater baits jerked slowly across the weeds.
The walleye bite remains a bit slow, but has been better during the day, due to the very cool mornings. Fish the flats just off of the weed beds in 6-8 ft of water, sometimes casting right into the weed pockets. Use A nightcrawler on a floating jighead, or cast some crankbaits like Rattling Rapalas or Rapala X-Raps.
With the mayfly hatch beginning on most area lakes, the bite has been and will be slowing down dramatically. Try to use lighter lines, hooks, and lighter colors. Flies and poppers are sure to prevail!!
Lastly, I would like to Congratulate area guide Ken Mack, on catching and releasing another 50" Muskie on Saturday. Ewwwwwww Dawwwgy!!!
