The fishing is still doing well, walleyes are still biting in and around the weeds. However the mayfly hatch is underway and we are finding walleyes over mud bottoms, some with weeds, some without weeds. Leeches are the best bait if you are fishing on a lake where the hatch is in full swing. On lakes that don't have the hatch going on, an extra large fathead minnow on a 1/32 or 1/16 ounce jig is still the hot setup. We are finding walleyes in 6 to 22 feet in these muddy areas.

Crappies are hitting well also, again fish the weeds in the 4 to 8 foot depths in and around the weeds. The same small jig fathead are catching crappie, or try a slip bobber and rig tipped with a crappie minnow or pinky jig or Mini-Mite.

Bluegills are hitting in the shallows and in the shallow weeds. Use a slip bobber or regular bobber and hook combination tipped with a half of nightcrawler or a leaf worm.

Northern pike are hitting just about anything that resembles a minnow or makes a flash underwater. Spinners, minnow baits and live bait are all taking them in and around the weedbeds.

The muskies are hitting small spinners, and are also locating themselves in and around the weeds. Mepp spinners, Eagle River Wiz and baby Buchertails are all moving fish. The water temperatures are in the upper 60's and 70's depending on the lake you are fishing. Don't overlook a surface bait at this time as some larger muskies have been reported being caught on them.
