Fishing Report 8/8

Water surface temperatures on most area lakes are ranging from 67 to 72 degrees. Winds have been predominately out of the NW for the last week and air temps have been low at night for some time now. Today has been the first humid day in a while and warmer weather is predicted for at least the next week which should help to get things feeling like August again!

Muskie action has been very good with multiple fish days still happening regularly. We have been catching many 34 to 42 inch muskies on the Eagle River and Three lakes chains and on many other area lakes as well. Small bucktails like the Mepps Muskie Killer have been producing as well as regular size Bull Dawgs and Curly Sue’s. With the cooler than normal water temps, smaller lures are getting the most action. Fishing shallow weed flats in the 7 to 12 foot zone has provided good action and we have moved to suspended fishing when conditions are right with good success. Night fishing for muskies has also resulted in taking some of the larger fish in the 25 pound class and has been another consistent pattern as the summer boat traffic continues to stir up the water.

Largemouth bass action has been tough at times but today we finally had the break through we were looking for! Fishing this afternoon from 3 to 7pm and caught lots of LM bass up to 16 inches with many fish in the 14 to 16 inch range. Active fish were found holding tight to weed edges in 10 to 12 feet of water. 5 inch worms rigged on Texas rigs and jigs with 3 inch minnows were the best presentations. Keeping the lure down near the bottom and working it slow has been the best presentation. We also caught many northern pike, perch and panfish as well.
