Weekly Report: June 27 - July 4, 2009

The weekend of June 27 started with some big wind and the following day saw it get even bigger. Both days were near write-offs in terms of fishing, but there was a few brave, hearty soul out there on Saturday that caught some nice walleyes.

Walleye were predictably quiet the first few days after the wind blew, but again picked up steam with each day of stable weather and were hitting on the edges of mid-lake humps pretty well by the end of the week.

Jigs and minnows were the popular choice again, with some groups favouring leeches and doing well with them also.

Muskies were a bit sluggish too, likely as a result of the wind that stirred up the lake something awful. We didn't have a single muskie boat in camp last week, but from the reports that came in from different areas of the lake, muskies were bit off most of the week. Action picked up a bit over the weekend, with the evening bite being much better in general for most anglers.

We are still seeing dirty water from the swirling winds so watch behind/under your bait carefully for some nice of a disturbance. The backs of the fish are blending in almost perfectly with the dirty water to make it very difficult to see following fish, even with good polarizes lenses.

Northern and bass activity was not well reported due to a camp full of walleye anglers. A couple of groups hit northerns and bass in the evenings and did have some action.

The coming week has started with some hot, sunny weather. Muskie activity picked up a little bit from a slow weekend. There are a lot of big baits flying this week with 8 or 9 muskie boats in for all or part of the week. Walleye action was great over the 4th of July. Pics will be on the website soon.
