Fished a few days this week with great guide clients Clark and his two sons, and one morning with my wife Kris (aka the Musky Huntress). Water temps ranged from seventy-five degrees to seventy-seven degrees, and lots of baitfish up to twenty feet down over open water. Saw quite a few muskies porpoise in and around "community cove" amongst other spots, but I only managed to net one fish this week. It was caught by none other than the Musky Huntress herself, who nailed her first Figure Eight musky (and second of the year) while casting a Super Stalker! It was thirty two inches long and if you look closely in the picture, you'll see our German Shorthaired Pointer, Klaus, giving the tail a little lick before release.

Anyways, based on my recent observations, the time for serois open water trolling is now, and while fish can always be caught casting, the bigger muskies are not showing up in any appreciable numbers like they were two weeks ago on key casting spots, which tells me they may be setting up in the main lake basins chasing shad schools and are more spread out. Time will tell if the river bite will repeat itself like last summer. Good luck on the water!
