The weather has been just great the past few days, sunny and warm with no winds. So we have been able to get out on the big lake with no problem.
The crank bait bite remains very strong, we have been fishing the reefs and long points below the narrows. I have been using mainly three different cranks, Shad Raps, Tail Dancers, and Reef Runners. It seems like the perch or shad colors are working the best. After cranking the area we fish the edges with jigs and plastics for the less active fish, they are usually just off the edge in 10 to 14 feet. This has been producing lots of walleyes in the 18 to 27 inch range, the bigger one are almost always coming on the cranks. The crank baits over the reefs are also producing some very nice northerns in the 30 to 44 inch range, a nice bonus from time to time.
The bass fishing has been some where between great and extordinary. They are up on the shore lines in the bolder and sand. They have been cooperating by taking a wide variety of baits, plastics, cranks, and spinners. For the most part I have been fishing a small crawfish colored tail dancer.
Musky season opens today and there are a few people in camp who are going to take advantage. We have been seeing some musky in the shallows while we are bass fishing but they seem to just be sunning.
