Two of us landed 11 big perch and two 17" walleyes (also 3 throwbacks) between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. today in 29' to 31' of water. The perch reposnded only to slip float rigs baited with 1/2 crawler and cast upwind then drifted down past the boat with the bait lightly brushing bottom. Double hook perch rigs fished straight over the side produced nothing (except a three-pound sucker).

The walleyes hit one-ounce Gapens "Baitwalker" weights with a four foot leader and a red/orange floating jighead. These were fished on a dead drift with the wind. Depths of 14' to 20' produced the keepers. The Baitwalker has a wider, flat weight that bumps along bottom, producing clouds of silt while plowing along. Trolling cranks and jigging produced no 'eyes. Best times were between 10 and 11 a.m., bright sky, low winds. We also lost a couple other nice fish that were probably walleyes, but we'll never know.

thanks for the info. I plan on fishing tomorrow north of Gladstone. Sounds like the warm weekend is finally turning somethings around.
