june 10 report and gillepies woods and waters tv show
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
john gillespie with woods and waters pulled in for a short 2 day shoot and to say hi. monday went out with danny under tough rainy, windy,e wind conditons and got a great show with walleyes to 27" actually were done shooting the walleye segmant in less than an hr with 30-40 fish ,pulled off them and looked for some bass to finish the show, boated a number of bass to 19".
tues they went on a fly-in to try some thing diff and show a bit of versitility/offerings available and had a great time boating 150+ walleyes, some pike to 10-12#though danny lost a real big fish over 20#.
both will be great shows and will be airing this coming sat and the following weekend. check it out. fox north.
water temps 52-58 depending on section of the lake and wind direction.
still we've had off and on rain and cool weather. patterns have not changed a great deal in the past several weeks though walleyes are now showing up in numbers in shallower mud bottomed bays and flats.jigs and rigs still producing but under these conditions consider pulling spinner rigs and shallow running cranks like shallow shad raps, flicker shads,#9-13 raps, etc.
you'll cover more ground and make contact with the aggressive fish easier and locate groups of fish quicker.
you can always go back and jig the tighter schools you find.
the rocky point, shallow bars, and wood on dropping shorelines pattern still holding strong and what danny with the gillesp was fishing as the avg size fish typically tends to be bigger avg sized with a number of 26-29" fish boated this week. the miler, robbie, hedrington, cran, and baker groups have all boated fish 28"+.
bass are now moving into spawning areas though not really making beds in ernest yet,a few here and there with a lot of male cruisers. mixed reeds
and rock ,timber, and points right in or near spawning areas holding the females.
jerk shad, tubes, wacky worms doing well.a few on topwaters.
the robbies caught 15 in a short time to 20"off the dock!!
trout still 20-40 for the most part though some caught much shallower fishing for walleyes and some caught deeper but i fished them for the most part of the day yestersay with greg miler and his son mostly 3-6 # with one young jack caght that went probabaly 10. we caught 35-40 and some pike
from 28-38' on spinners, cowbells, and jigging. definatly appears to be a predominate morning to early afternoon bite going on.
biggest pike so far this week has been 41" with some others 34-38" but everyone everywhere is commenting about the consistant lack of good sized pike shallow. there has to be a suspended or deeper breakline thing going on.needs to be explored and the fact most bigger pike being caught have been fishing walleyes on the deeper patterns tends to support that theory.
the crans from toronto who come every year just to fish pike have caught fish up to 38" but are struggling compared to most years casting shallow though they have hooked and water released 5 muskies to 48" on small spinners and minnowbaits.
remember,
it is unlawfull to intententionally target muskies during the off season which opens june 20 but if you do hook a musky incidently fishing other species which can and does happen alot enjoy the experience, respect the fish and the law,and be sure and water release it. though it appears they have spawned,in some areas could still be in the process and survival of the spawn is reduced considerably if they are over stressed.
everyone is eagerly waiting some consistant warm sunny weather. it has been an unusually cold wet spring so though everyone is catching fish and the guests have been good sports. it can only get better!!
we still have some scattered availablity end of june early july, give us acall anytime 888 727 5865 or info@andymyerslodge.com for availablity, pricing, options, etc. some awesome fishing and great times are a waiting!!!
