Been very windy the past few days here on the south end of the lake. Did guide a trip last Thursday, Caught and released over 80 fish (five anglers with a trail boat) perfect day...little or no wind..could work the rocks slow. five biggest fish were over 20 inches...5 to 5 1/2 lbs range. Bonus musky (seeing lots of musky shallow), and walleye were also caught. Next day was a total bust...high winds knocked us off the lake with 8 fish.

Lake conditions: Surface water temps 59-61 degrees, Clearity 5-7 feet, Lake bug hatch( I think midges) last wednesday and continues.

Fish are beginning to school up, noticed packs of 5-20 fish roaming on top of structure and caught some on twitch baits. Males beginning to move shallow in prep of spawn. I have to believe that the spawn is beginning in parts of the lake. The females havnt showed up as of yet....stay tuned..

some pics of last week posted on web site.

Jim,

First, your web site is excellent. Thank you for the reports. Second - and a bit late - I was on ML a couple Fridays ago for the north winds, rain and bug hatches. Worked hard for 15 fish on grubs and X-Raps. 4 fish in the 4-6lb range were stuffed with eggs. All on off-shore reefs. No nest-building activity yet that I could see in the typical areas.

Did you get out this weekend? I'm guessing this cold weather is putting a damper on spawning activity. We may have males on nests until the 4th of July this year.

Yeah, I figured the jerk bite would be fading by now. I was a bit surprised they were still chasing jerks two weeks ago, but it's been a chilly spring. Pink has been my best hue for jerks on ML. Sounds crazy, but I saw Al Lindner using them on a couple shows and they work.
