I had the pleasure of guiding Jeff and Ted Verges yesterday(5-4-09) for walleye and had very pleasant day on the water. It was sunny, 59 degrees and very little wind. Much of the day was flat calm. We boated 40 some walleyes and they had a nice walleye fish fry last nite.

We fished a clear lake all day. Water temperature was 46 degrees when we started and 50 degrees on the surface when we quit fishing. The aggression of the walleye was very evident as the water warmed in the afternoon. All the walleye were in 2 to 14 feet of water. Most of the fish were 15 t0 17.5 inches with a few being over that magic 18 inch mark.

Here is the deal, the fish were not scattered as one would expect at 46-48 degrees. They were all located on inside turns formed by the shoreline and an a bar extending out to deep water. Additionally the "turn" HAD TO HAVE AT LEAST 12 FEET OF WATER in very close proximity to the spot. Some spots had 17 to 18 feet right out the door. Also some of the better producers had wood scattered in the area.

The bait of choice was a 1/16 oz jig and an extra large fathead.

Thanks to Jeff and Ted, two very good walleye anglers for a great day, and good luck to the rest of you. The walleyes are biting and this is a great time to fish them.
