A variety of weather, ranging from 30 mph winds on Saturday to near dead-calm today (Monday), made for an interesting weekend in the greater Wausau area. For the most part, the crappie bite was fantastic. We caught well over a hundred crappies between Saturday and Sunday alone, despite the windy conditions; slip bobbers and minnows were the ticket. In addition, walleyes and northern pike were available, with the average size of the pike breaking the 30" mark. We caught a handful on accident while fishing crappies, and others by casting crankbaits or swim baits. We encountered some fine smallomouth as well, espcecially today as the water temps continued to climb.

As I left Lake Wausau today, the main lake basin was reading slightly above 60 degrees, with the shallow back bays reaching into the low to mid sixties. The weed growth has started strong in places, with decent clumps of weeds beginning to grow within 1 - 3 feet of the surface, depending on the locale.

Tight lines,
Joel
