Saturday is our opening weekend. I'd like to wish everyone a safe and successful start to the 2009 fishing season.

After seeing over a hundred viewers and no one posting a report, I'll add a couple.

Saturday, Jason Long and I went out for our annual opening day outing. Facing a strong northwest or west wind, blowing against the current made for a struggling day for boat control. Our thought process, with the time of year, water temps is to attack the back waters, sloughs and similar areas. It wasn’t till just after noon when a healthy 34-incher connected Jason’s Long Tale spinner. Rest of the day was spent working over the stronger current areas and eddies with no results to show for it.

Sunday, I got out for a few hours with my oldest daughter Jamie. Checking out several spots from the river to the back waters we never saw a fish. Talked with some good friends Chad and TJ, their only action came earlier that morning with Chad netting TJ’s 39-incher.

Monday, I had Joel Wick with me. We did a repeat of what Jason and I did on Saturday, thinking with different (calmer) conditions this my produce some better results. Well, it did give Joel his personal best walleye. Joel was twitching a minnow bait when a beautiful 27 ½-inch walleye wanted her picture taken. Rest of the day was spent in search of the exclusive musky.

Water temps on Saturday started out at 52* and warmed to 55*. Water flow was strong and fast. By Monday starting temps were at 55* and warmed to 59*. The current has settled a lot since Saturday too. Overall the four sections of river I was on were looking really good.

How did everyone else do?
