My buddy was jigging south of Gladstone when he wanted to stir up the bottom to attract fish when he hooked a ball of zebra mussles that was approx 6" ball with minnow heads and parts mixed in. Does anyone know why minnow parts are in that ball of zebra mussles.

Well, zebra mussels attach to anything that is a solid substrate. This means to rocks, other mussels and possibly to a skeletal structure of a fish. My guess is that one zebra mussel attached to the minnow remains and other mussels attached from there. I'm also guessing that many of the zebra mussels within the ball were dead. The other mussels that would attach would out compete the mussels in the internal ball for food. If the minnow was still fleshy (not decomposed), then i don't have a realistic answer for you.
