I can't say for sure off the top of my head where the Trading Post would be. I will look into it.

The American Fur Company trading post was established in 1834 by John Baptiste DuBay. The site chosen by DuBay was an important fording place on the river. Dubay's own father spent a winter there as early as 1790. The place of the old trading post now lies under the waters of Lake DuBay, formed when the dam was erected in 1942, creating the fifth largest lake in Wisconsin.

thats cool. Do you know if any of the structure remains, if so where. Also on the hotspots they mention a spot called the old stone fence. What is this about.
Thanks

I went fishing with a local guide named Pat Pierce (I think that is correct) and he showed me where it was. However I don't recall anymore where that would be. That was the first I had ever heard of it.
If the Stevens Point Flowage drawdown is any indication that I would say yes there should be remnants of the trading post as long as it had a stone floor or cellar.
The "Old Stone Fence" is probably just that. Literally an old stone fence.
You could do additional research at the library. Look for stories about when the dam was constructed and put to use.
I'm sure Phil knows Pat and could perhaps ask him the location.

Phil,
Have you had any luck locating the old Trading Post?

I hope that this helps:
In the 1600's-1700's before the pine and other timber was harvested off the river was an important trade route among the native tribes and explorers for fur who gathered north of town. You will find a historic river crossing at Lake DuBay County Park north of Stevens Point. The park was named after John Baptiste Du Bay, in the early 1800's established a trading post for the American Fur Company on the east bank of the Wisconsin River at a place known later as Crockers Landing. This area is now under water after Lake DuBay was created in 1942.
Crocker’s Landing was the site of a landing for a river boat, located on the east side of the Wisconsin River, west of Park Road in the area of the southeast corner of Lake DuBay. A post office was established there in 1882 when the community, consisting of two buildings, one of them a blacksmith shop run by Sylvister Crocker, was located in the town of Eau Pleine.
The territory east of the river was switched to the town of Dewey in 1888 and the post office remained in use until 1907.

Here is the location according to the 1895 Platbook in the Stevens Point Public Library. I didn't realize Crockers Landing was at the same location as the Trading Post.
It's tough to read in this image but Crocker's Landing is noted just downstream from the big oxbow just south of the Marathon County line.

Wouldn't it be nice if the area was still that wide open? Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy this area's history.
