Looks like Ontario is changing their licensing requirement now requiring a non-resident to obtain an "Outdoor Card" first before obtaining a license. The same requirement as a resident. Looks like the card is good for 3 years, and will cost $9.00.

Good news is that once you have the card, you can purchase licenses on line.
From what I can tell, the initial Outdoor Card must be purchased in person at a license agency, but then you can order licenses and renew the Outdoor Card on line.

Looks like you can get the initial card by sending in paperwork, more paperwork!! I hate paperwork, and rocks , and ice, and................

Non-resident anglers and hunters will be able to purchase their initial Outdoors Card by filling out an application at any ServiceOntario office or Ontario fishing and hunting licence issuer.

That's what it looks like to me. Again, I'll verify that upon my next trip to the real world.

Could explain why the last time I crossed the border is when you and I picked up my boat in early June.

I checked today, you can actually purchase these cards over the phone the same time you buy you license. You can call the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources at 1-800-667-1940.

I just ordered my 2009 license and Outdoors Card over the 800 number for both my wife and myself. The card will be good for 3 years and until the plastic card arrives, sometime in the summer, I have to carry the paper one with the license at all times. Thanks for the heads up PikeBob.

I don't think so. I think once you get the Outdoor Card, you can order the license online, and renew the Outdoor Card, but not The original issue.

Don't give this 100% credence, but pretty sure.

That's exactly what I was told. The first time you can order using the 800# then next year you can do it online. Frank you are right again.

I just picked up My 2009 Ontario License from Border Shell in Sprague. You fill out Outdoor card application and your license at the same time. They will give you a copy of your outdoor card application to go with your license. They will mail the outdooor application in and you will get your outdoor card in the mail. Your copy of the outdoor card application along with your license will make you legal to fish. Takes an extra five minutes to fill out.

P.s. they don't take credit cards for this so bring cash.
Happy fishing

Well to look at the bright side of things at least we can still get away with musky fishing with the $20 something dollar conservation liscense.
