As we ring in the new year, ice conditions have gotten much better. We are driving trucks almost everywhere. This is one of the earliest winters that I can remember where travel was so easy.

The bite has been good for the most part(walleyes), and action swings up and down with the weather. This winter will be one to remember for its cold and wind. Weather is so up and down, warm 2 days, and then bitter cold for 3, ok to warm for 1, and then this week bitter, bitter cold for 4 days. I can tell you that next weekend, the fishing will be good with the warm up(plus I will be sport showing it).

Walleyes are relating to steep drops, grass flats, rock humps, and mud. Basically anything that is a good structure with food nearby, is holding fish. I haven't really targeted panfish(too cold to be mobile and effective), but have fished pike for action and have done ok.

I won't be out this week at all, but after sport shows and travel, back at it next week.

Good Luck!
