Hi everyone,

I guided Paul, Dick, and Dick's 7 year old, soon to be 8 years old son, Keenan, for a morning of walleye fishing. We began our adventure under mostly sunny skies with a fair NW wind and fresh air temps. As it warmed up the wind blew stronger making an excellent walleye chop. The fishing proved to be very tough but we did accomplish two important things. Both Dick and his son Keenen caught thier very first walleyes ever. We totaled 5 walleyes keeping only Dicks 15" walleye and the only other fish we boated was a perch we released. We had lots of other hits that were real light to keep it interesting and the time flew by quick.

All the fish were on the lead-free jigs tipped with minnows. Nothing even touched the leeches which is very odd to me. This time of year and with the heavy bug hatches going on lately, it's usually a leech bite. The water temps remained at 70-71 degrees and with the stable water temps and weather, we are experiencing an explosion of bug hatches. Yesterday we saw two different types of bug casings floating by indicating a heavy hatch the night before. The fish are eating well! That's a good thing. The fall bite shoukd be super.

Remember to be good stewarts of our waters and go with lead-free jigs and spinners. It;s for our childrens and grandchildrens sake. Let's leave them a better future. Good luck fishing everyone.
