Well it is the middle of August, Summer is almost over, or is if you have kids in school. It has been another fantastic summer, here at Allen's. Our staff is 100% so far filling limts on full day trips. It does not get much better. Looking at our schedule it looks like a busy August and the rest of the fall. By the way and our days off, our guides go fishing. May not always be for walleyes. We enjoy the time on the water as much as our customers. Check out Carp photo, of fish caught today by Brian Ward.
Fishing has been good to excellent for the guides. We are catching 40 to 80 fish per day. The bite can be a little spotty at times. But with some work and persistence you will run into the right bite. Very nice 15 to 20 inch fish.
On the lower lake we are catching some catfish with our walleyes and more action, although the size is a touch smaller. 10 to 15 foot has been best.
On the upper lake, walleyes and a few smallies, very nice looking fish, but not near as easy. Bigger window on depths. Have caught them as shallow as 8 and as deep as 27. They are chasing roaming shad, with some mayflies now, so everyday is a little different.
One thing I have noticed, if you put many boats on 1 school, it spooks the fish. So I am moving to a lot of spots in any given day. I have fished both places the last 10 days. With excellent success.
Make sure and check our pics on facebook. We guide many families and company groups. One thing you will notice is the smile on their face when they get done fishing. We are the only fishing outfitter, with a group of guides that gets along with each other, and shares fishing advice. We help each other on any given day to make sure you have and excellent fishing trip.
Here is my report for the week. At the bottom of report, will give a little fishing report for the BASS fishing tournament here in Sept.
On Aug 1 I had a group out from McAllen, TX and Las Vegas, NV. Guiding along side my dad Garry Allen. We had an excellent day, great weather, and Great action. We caught 55 to 60 fish. The group had a fantastic time enjoying some South Dakota Fishing. They are repeat customers and look forward to joining your family next year.https://sphotos-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/254673_601200796566795_1263769598_n.jpg
On Aug 2nd and 3rd we had a Co-Op group from Arcadia and Westside, IA. 5 boats on day 1 and 4 boats on day 2. We dodged raing and thunderstorms for 2 days. We caught 40 fish on day 1 and 35 fish on day 2 out of my boat. On day 2, the group decide to grill some walleyes for dinner. So we loaded boats on trailer at 10:30 a.m. Some of the group had to head home that day. Pic is from Day 2.https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/969780_601985543154987_1224796343_n.jpg
On Aug 4th and 5th I had a family of 2 boats out from Britt, IA with guide Eric Steichen. Our group caught 160 to 180 fish in the 2 days. Also got lucky and hooked a 6 lb northern as part of the day. The group had a wonderful time. 2 of the younger high school girls wanted to learn how to clean fish, so we gave them some instruction. They each cleaned 4 fish on their own. By the time they were done, their fish looked as good as ours. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/733773_602433146443560_2067585824_n.jpg

Ok now for the smally report for Lake Francis Case for the BASS Tournament. I have been getting lots of calls and emails on fishing info. To my knowledge the bass fishing in this area is sketchy. Guess we have never targeted them before on Francis Case (other than the years of the flooding). If you are fishing this area you will have to cast the rip rap around town and at the dam area. Other than that you are going to have a boat ride to south of the Platte/Winner Bridge. If we get a day later in August, a couple of us might go target them and see if there is any to catch. If there is I will post a small report later. If there is a chance of getting the right size smallies in our area, I will let you know, and then hiring us would be a good idea. One thing about our service, is we are not in the business of taking people for boat rides. We are in the business to catch fish.
