coming to the end of a great first full camp week.wonderful group of guests with lots of fish stories amd many repeat guests with sharing years of memories and highlights. the transistion has been working as planned ,julian and the staff are doing a great job and totally committed and i've been on the water daily with renewed vigor, also able to spend alot of extra quality time with guests both new and those of 20+ years, unpressured by phone calls, staff issues, bills, problems that arise and need to be addressed in everyday camp life. everyone gets the extra time with mapm marking, fishing patterns and advice, seminars, and any help my many years here can add. lots of compliments. the camp will go to new level even above what has set andy myers lodge as one of the elite and foremost fishing lodges in nw ontario. exciting stuff.
water temps back up to upper 50's mainlake basins and over 60 in bays.
walleyes are returning to pre front patterns feeding shallow mostly 4'-16'with rock, timber, and rock/weed transition areas being best in the n and w sections. signs of a grass/mudflat bite starting to develop as walleyes target larve forage.jigs and minnows best, crankbaits and spinner rigs boating some fish being also. lots of slot and over fish 19-15" besides big pop of eaters 15-18".some fish 26-29" daily, nothing over 30" yet but as spawning recoup comes to an end that will change quickly.
bass are moving in,cruising and roaming in and out right now,so far some 20-50 fish days with some big pre spawn females and more showing up daily,so far this week jeff has boated over 130 bass most 16-20".suspending minnow baits have been best by far though grugs, tubes, and drop shot with minnows have accounted for fish too.
hooked fish have have had 2-6 fish following, toss a jig and minnow at the follows for bonus fish. bass will be on beds with in days.
best pike fishing has been on 4wd lakes with many days 50-100 fish and pike 43-45" have been boated though most are 26-36". dark water, smaller lakes with shallow bays, emerging weeds/reeds and spinner baits have been best.
some big muskies seen cruising and 6 from 38-48" were hooked by bass fishermen and boatside released. big females in many areas are just spawning or completing so do not target and do not take out of the water or spawning success drops dramatically.
lake trout have been easy and consistant at depth ranging from 10-50 with 30-50' 25' down consistant all week. i've avged 25-50 fish days this week on spinner rigs/sucker strips, jigging jigs/spoons and frozen shiners.most fish 3-6# but several 12-18# fish caught.
all in all it was a great week to be alive and in canada at AML!!!!
really looking forward to next week as water temps go up and into 60's and the following week MUSKY SEASON OPENS!!!!!!
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING ALL OF YOU AND HAVING A GREAT TIME!!!
