Memorial Weekend came and went with good weather and decent fishing. After starting the weekend with a 32" bang Thursday night, walleyes were steady if not spectacular. Walleyes were in the usual haunts...shorelines, sand and moved in an out with the conditions. Shallower when clouds covered the sun and deeper when sun was shining. Other fish up to 28 inches were caught and released and personal bests produced, with several great days of 20" and above snapping good. bottom bouncing was the most reports presentation. Northerns were plentiful as well. Also, several nice smallmouth with a couple up to 18.5" released. As usual, a few muskies gobbled up worms, minnows or leeches and were caught with walleye set ups as well.
lake levels are rising fast with 7 inches gained in the past week and another 7-9 predicted the coming week. WE are now in there 65% so the water is higher than normal this time of year. This trend will continue as long as the district keeps getting rain that is now running off directly into the basins because of ground saturation.
Water temps in the mid 50s. There just hasn't been that many days of real bright sunshine.
Two weeks til muskie opener! Get your "walleye on" before the real opener arrives.
Gook luck on the water.
