I just read an article in the paper that stated the indians plan to spear 59,399 walleyes this spring and that this could be a record harvest for them. I am just curious the reason behind the large numbers this year. What do they do with all these fish? I have heard stories of walleyes being sold and worse yet being thrown in a ditch and left to rot. I wonder if this is not some sort of retaliation to killing wolves.

Shorts, planning and doing are two different things. Hopefully an agreement will be reached and this won't happen. Yes, years ago there were walleyes that went to waste, however what actually does happen with these fish, most of us will never know.

Come up to the beautiful Northwoods, go fishing with the kids, take a trip out on the boat at dusk, go hiking, take a bike trip, enjoy the many great places to eat, go shopping, go sit on the dock of your cabin and watch the sun come up BUT DON'T, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT go to a casino and spend one lousy dime in those establishments. I have been coming up for 20 some odd years and I have never set a foot in one of their casono's------AND I NEVER WILL!!

Who knows what they do with all those fish-----I will never believe it is all consumed. AND why are they spearing Musky. That is a complete waste of a rare resource.

I would have to agree. I think if we had a couple of state funded casinos all of this madness would end. Hit them where it hurts. I spend the weekends in the summer around the Hayward area. Every bar you go to around there they have a donation board for walleye stocking. Now why in the world would someone want to pay their hard earned money toward something that will more than likely be speared out from underneath them? And as far as muskies I have been told they don't target them but they don't pass them up either, most of which fight hard and come free of the spear and swim away wounded and left for dead. I am totally convinced that the only reason spearing takes place is to piss off the (whiteman) average fisherman.
