It is very cold this morning(-10), and making ice. After the next couple of days, ice thicknesses will be 14-17 inches on most lakes. Driving conditions will be very good.

The bite was pretty good prior to this cold snap. Pike and walleyes cooperated all day for my group of 16 on Friday. The deeper bite has proven the most consistant for me.

Sucker minnows on tip-ups seem to be the best bait for me this winter, outfishing shiners for walleyes 5-1.

Expect the bite to be slow the next couple of days(if you decide to go out), and as the weather warms up towards the end of the week, so will the bite.

I will start to target deep sand and gravel bars moving into Feb for walleyes, and deeper edges and mud flats for pike. If you have found any healthy weeds, fish it...but it usually seems the green stuff is gone by mid Feb.

Good luck and stay warm!
