Yesterday morning we were not only greeted by cool nw winds, but also the dock at Fisherman's Landing was partially covered with mayflys, not the large ones we all fear, but they were in the one inch size catagory and I'm sure they affected the fishing somewhat, we saw them all the way to the entrance to Rat Lake. Anyway, the walleye action started out very slow as we worked several wind blown shorelines with jigs & fatheads and came up with 1 keeper eye and a good number of smallies. After giving up working these areas, we switched to my old standby method of drifting with a small spinner tipped with a 2 inch piece of crawler or a small fathead and a fixed bobber about 3 feet or so above the spinner and drifting over shallow mud flats. This move paid off and we had our 3 limits of nice flowage eyes along with 1 jumbo perch in 6 to 8 drifts.

Heading out today to do some slipbobbering in the weeds in search of some jumbo perch and crappies.

Do you add a split shot weight for the spinner?

Yes, 1/4 ounce, 10 inches above spinner.
