Only ended up with 9 teams this year, but it's better than the 6 that showed up last year! Couldn't have asked for a much better day to be out on the water. Actually, that's not entirely true - we could have used just a little more wind to light the fish up a bit. Tough bite for most people Saturday. There was no shortage of fish, they just wouldn't bite. The times when the wind blew hard enough to get the boat moving and bouncing, then they were a little more active.

The team of Jim Hubert (Jr and Sr,) Jeff Sacheck, and Amber Benjamin won the "Biggest Other Fish" prize with a 1.7 pound sucker.

Kevin Bellamore, John Sliva, and his daughters Lucy and Laura, and their friend Brooke McGee, took 3rd place with 2.5 pounds of fish.

My partner Denny Merrill and I took 2nd place, (second year in a row for my team,) with 4.1 pounds. We had a pretty good day of fishing compared to most. We caught a lot of perch, just not enough of the quality fish to take first place. We ended up keeping 26 fish, but had to wade through at least that many throwbacks, and 40 to 50 suckers and walleyes! Denny also caught 2 white bass.

In the end, Ron Young and his Grandson Aaron took 1st place with 4.6 pounds. They only weighed 8 fish, but Aaron's first fish of the day was a whopping 1.5 pounder! In addition to their first place check, they also won the "Big Fish" pot. Way to go, guys!

Thanks to Jim and Amy Shantz of the Shorewood Motel for hosting the weigh-in. Jim and his daughter Mariette fished with Steve Lawonn. Mariette caught her very first walleye, during the tournament. To make the story even better, she caught it on one of the rods that the fishing club gives away to kids at our various events. Congrats to Mariette, hope you catch a lot more on it!

Congrats !!! Winning on a tough bite means more than winning on a hot bite.
