High winds have dominated most of April after a very mild March which encouraged us to get the boat in earlier than normal.

Having had to cancel some trips because of high/waves, we took advantage of the good weather when we had it. At times, the volatile weather scattered the fish but we headed offshore on the afternoon of April 24 and bagged a 6-person limit of 30 fish in just a few hours. We fished familiar and usually reliable territory therefore it relieved us that the fish were where they should have been.

We expect this trend of strong fishing and better weather to continue into May which usually means frequent limits of Coho Salmon and we believe April 24th's trip may have begun that trend. There are also quite a few large King (Chinook) Salmon residing in our waters at the moment as well and where territory allows, we will usually have at least four rods dedicated in their direction to see if we can catch some 12-20lb+ class fish too. That effort allowed us to bring a 17lb King on board last week and we expect more of these world class spring Kings to be caught as this spring progresses. If you find yourself on the water this spring, you should take special observation of these particular setups and be excited when they get hit! Captain Rick even wrote an article on that topic in this April's issue of Great Lakes Angler magazine (pgs 30-31). Here is the online version: http://www.glangler.com/online-magazine

As always fish filleting, icing, and bagging is a complimentary service for all Windycitysalmon charters and we will send you home with some delicious recipes to try as well!
