Just a quick run down for the month of March... amazing month in all, a fast warm up had us ice fishing the beginning of March and boat fishing by the end of March! Early warm water temps had fish thinking sex very early then more normal weather set in and has had water temps hovering in the 42-44 range for awhile now, making the walleye spawn kind of sporatic. Water temps are just under what would make for a "mass exodus" for spawning, instead small groups show up daily, prolonging the spawning ritual. Some days they're in 6-7 feet of water, other days 15-20... I've found the deeper they're resting, the tougher they are to catch.

Been catching a lot of smaller males, 14-16in range, heard of a 24in female caught yesterday, first one, belly still hard with eggs, meaning she wasn't ready to spawn quite yet.

I've been alternating locations lately, one day the river down in Tomahawk, the next the reasearch lakes north of us. The attached photo shows the extreme change in a short period of time that occured around here, from walking on ice the 16th of March to the boat on the 27th of March. When you think about it... wow!
