If you have any plans on fishing Lake of the Woods anytime, you should be sure to attend Steve Heiting's seminar at the Flatlanders Chapter of Muskies, Inc meeting on Thursday March 22nd. The meeting starts at 7:30 PM and will be held at the Loves Park VFW on Windsor Rd and Alpine Rd in Loves Park, IL. Admission is FREE, hoping that you will bring a couple of bucks to spend on some raffle tickets as a fund raiser. Steve will be speaking on LOTW and it has been promised to be a talk that has not been heard at any major shows. As you know Steve is an outstanding fisherman and one of the hosts of the University of ESOX musky school held each year on LOTW and will be bringing the knowledge he has obtained over many years of fishing Lake of the Woods. Don't miss this one! For more information, or if you'd like to sponsor/donate to this event, feel free to contact me. Thank you and I hope to see you there.

Here is the information Wally put in the newsletter about this seminar:

Steve Heiting to share big fish secretsAlmost every serious musky angler knows who Steve Heiting is. Steve is the managing editor of Musky Hunter magazine and a frequent guest on the Musky Hunter television show. You’ve probably heard Steve speak at the Chicago and Milwaukee musky shows a few times over the years and you might even have one or two of the four DVDs that he’s produced or both of the musky fishing books he’s written. Well, we’re in for a treat because Steve will be our guest speaker at the March 22 meeting. That’s pretty good news by itself, but even better is that Steve said that he will share information that he’s only shared a time or two in previous seminars. The title for his March 22 appearance here is “Attack Lake of the Woods.” Many of us look forward to our annual adventure on the Canadian waters and we’re always looking for tips on how to catch more and bigger fish. Who better than Steve Heiting to help us with that?
To make Steve’s seminar even better, and that’s a pretty tall order, the event is FREE. As has been pointed out in previous newsletters, the executive committee, under the leadership of President Jeff Blanck, wants more members to show up to meetings and get involved in club activities. We thought that FREE events would maybe get you away from the television on Thursday nights and out to the VFW. We’re hoping to get sponsors to underwrite the cost of bringing Steve and other speakers to town and we hope that you spend money you would have spent getting in on the 50/50 and the other raffles that will be going on. There’ll be some pretty good stuff on the raffle tables and we’ll have a silent auction for a getaway on Indian Lake Lodge.
There may be a couple of other surprises, but you have to show up to find out what they’ll be. More on Steve. His home water is northern Wisconsin, but he’s a well-traveled angler and has caught big muskies from the northern-most musky lake in Ontario to as far south as Kentucky. Steve is co-owner of the University of Esox Musky Schools. Steve is on the pro teams of Ranger, Mercury, St. Croix, Mepps, Frabill, Shoeder’s Marina, Minn Kota, Humminbird and Stealth Tackle. This will be one of the best – if not the best – seminars the Flatlanders have hosted in years. Let’s pack the VFW March 22.

I've posted the Heiting on some Facebook pages (North American Fisherman, Shabbona, Musky Hunter) to help get the word out. Twitter will be next. Please tell everyone you know, and folks you don't know, about this great event. I'd like to pack the VFW that night. I want Steve to feel welcome and appreciated by us in northern Illinois.

As Wally stated tell everyone we need the attendance and even if you have not had the experience to fish Lake of the Woods it sure will help when you do go. It is a must fish spot for MUSKY FISHERMAN.Then on Sat 3/24 is our AWARDS BANQUET, please do not feel as if you do not belong (I have a Buddy that has not had the opportunity to fish for several years and still comes to the Banquet) everyone is welcome, see our Newsletter on the WEB SITE, Banquet Form is on the bottom and call Russ I am sure he can still get you in.

Thursday's meeting was a great success. There was a great turn out for Steve's seminar on LOTW and it appeared everyone liked what he had to say as the room was silent the whole time. Steve donated DVDs for the raffle tables and gave each youngster a DVD if they were under 18 years old. What a great idea to keep the next generation interested in the sport. Thanks to everyone that attended and help with raising funds for the chapter and thanks again Steve for a great evening. We'll see you on the water!
