Fished the Au Train Basin last night. My goal was to play with my new Marcum VS 825 SD, get a feel for how it works and performs. The basin is lightly stained but I was able to get pretty fair visibility out to about 5 feet in Black and White with the light on. Saw a few fish with it but no takers on the camera hole.
caught a few undersized Pike, one on a deadstick with a 1/8 ounce Fireball color jig and minnow. The others jigging a blade bait. Fun to watch those fish appear on the ice troller as I went hole hopping. Most didn't bite but a few did, it is interesting what can get an old man excited!
A snowmobile dragging a spearing shack appeared and set up about 100 yards from me. Just about dark he walked over and we visited a bit. Retired to the UP from the Thumb back in 2005. Nice guy. Got off the ice about 7:30, hoping to nail a Walleye but no luck there. Still, a relaxing time in the beautiful UP.
Good Luck fishing!
