I'm confused. Is it a WV record or a Maryland record?
If it's caught on the Potomac... how do they decide which state? Is a fish caught along the border eligible for records in either state?
Does the light really go off when you shut the refrigerator door?
So many questions!

seems from the articles that they were from west Va but were fishing in MD so it's a MD record

As if on cue...
I heard a rumor on a West Virginia Fishing forum that the WV length record was almost broken on 4/29/11 at Stonewall Jackson Lake. 53 1/4" - 42.8 pounds
In case you don't know, WV keeps 2 records for every species of fish. One record for length and one for weight. This fish would be 3/4 inches shy of the length record.
C&R works.

It says the old record was 52.7" so it looks like it is a new length record.
That's a beast!

Yeah you're right, but there are absolutely no news articles about this fish anywhere online. I bet the measurement was posted incorrectly and it's really 52 1/4". It will be interesting to see how it sifts out.

I have heard the same story about WV. I am new at this and my replies haven't been coming out in the commets.
