There is still a bit of ice that is covering the Chain, but be advised that it is anything but safe and we do not condone attempting to fish from it. There are several areas where some have begun testing the waters and experiencing some success. The Yahara River by Highway 113 Bridges and Nau-ti-Gal has produced some crappies and the occasional sizable catfish. There are several channels open on Mendota but nothing noteworthy has come from them as of yet. There has been some bite in Monona Bay by the railroad trestles in the form of bluegills and crappies.

As the water warms, start to check the Channels on Lake Mendota including Mendota County Park, Pheasant Branch Creek, Marshall Park, and Spring Harbor. The action on Monona Bay should continue to pick up as the temperatures rise. Musky migration over the dam into Lake Wingra has begun.
