I Have a place on Kline Creek, the water in the creek is completely covered by the green algae. My brother in law has a place near the end of kline creek and it is so thick blue/green it smells bad enough that you would not want to be anywhere around his place. It smells by my place as well but it is tolerable depending on the wind direction

This is the second year that this condition has been so bad, in past years we had the green but not like now. We have been on Kline creek for over 15 years and never has it been so bad.

In past years I was able to catch all kind of fish off my dock, ths year "nothing" and the scary thing is that last week end I put minnows on a small jig about 4' down in the water, within 10 minutes they were dead.

We always had Blue gills aroung our dcck for the kids to catch, this year nothing

What is going on and is anyone trying to do something about it.

BP was able to clean up millions of barrels of oil in the gulf why can't the DNR clean up some discussing unhealthy algae. Do we have to wait untill someone gets sick or dies before something is done.

I realize that the opening to Kline creek is part of the problem, prevailing winds are out of the west so the wind blows the green off the lake into Kline creek and it can't get out.

I too have a place on Klien Creek. And everything you have said is correct. I have been here for 14 years and it has never been worse. My kids, Grandkids, and dog absolutely can't go near the water. The green slime stinks so bad. We too used to fish, my dog would play in the water. But no more. This is effecting our enjoyment and property values.
Someone mentioned lower the water earlier in the spring to grow more weeds. More WEEDS they are wrapped around our props now. If there were fish in the water you can't fish for them effectively now because of all the weeds. We never had weeds like this untill the last two years.
Some say all the slips at Four Seasons resticts the water flow and is contributing to the algae buildup. I don't know!
Fetilizer from the potato fields leaching into the Creek upstream?
I was thinking of putting in an areator or something but I think the issue is much much larger than what 1 person can improve. Is there algecides that would help without doing damage to the fish?
The DNR needs to do something. Would the Snug Harbor home owners association have more clout as group to get something done? A petition?
How did the DNR say we could approach this.

I have been coming up my whole life and have never seen anything like the last couple of years in there. Even in the spring the weeds are thick very early when there used to be none. How much fertilizer is running into the lake from the lawns around the new homes and condo's? Could this be contributing to the problem in the bay? Is there a special fertilizer that can be used that will not affect the water?

This does talk about what type of fertilizer to avoid.

It seems that there are lots of groups concerned with the area. Maybe we just need to get them to talk to each other

Petenwell and Castle Rock Stewards

http://www.pacrs.org/

Or the Wisconsin Seasonal Resident Association

http://www.wisra.org/

Or the Petenwell Castle Rock Property Owners Association

http://www.petenwellcastlerock.org/about_pcpoa.htm

All I know is that they all ask me for money for association dues.
