hmm... lets see... weather was a little warm this past week often popping into the 80's. Fairly stable weather, some rain and short storms and the winds were usually under 10 MPH. It was also a full moon this weekend. Lake temps on Kakagi (Crow) Lake are 70 degrees and warmer.
Swimming, tubing and some water skiing going on in the bay. One guest tried snorkeling as a means to retrieve a dropped fishing rod and a lure... with success!
Lake Trout fishing included another 25 pounder caught in a boat beside one of our guests. Almost everyone one staying here and fishing Lake Trout caught at least one 10 pound Lake Trout. A few other very big fish were hooked and lost. One guest landed one of those big fish while fishing the Lake Trout... a 48" Muskie.
Bass fishing on South Narrows and Bass Lake was solid and groups casting crankbaits on Kakagi were catching good quantities and some 2-4 pound smallmouth.
Northern Pike fishing was good on Whitefish Bay on Lake of the Woods and a few were found on accident on Kakagi, Stevens Bay and Bass lake.
Muskie fishing was probably the best week of the year on Kakagi and a little tougher then usual on Lake of the Woods. Jean will be posting some of the Muskie pictures over the next few days... but some of the highlights included - 38" from one of our docks, 48" previously mentioned while fishing Lake Trout, 38" by a first time guest and first Canada fishing trip, 45" by another first time guest, 46" by yet another first time guest and his biggest muskie caught. Our veteran guests were not going to be out fished by all of the "newbies"... so they caught a pile of Muskies between 38" and 48". The Veterans also saw and lost some impressive 50"+ fish. A few guests visited Lake of the Woods for Muskie action and caught a few, but most all of them fished Kakagi pretty steady last week.
Walleye... almost forgot about them this week. They are biting pretty decent also with several 4-5 pound Walleye caught on Lake of the Woods. A group reported catching 60-70 Walleyes on Cedartree in an afternoon and sadly it was one of those big Walleye days, so almost all were caught and released.
The resort is pretty close to full the next couple weeks yet, after August 7th we have cabins available. Expect we should have a couple months of good fishing ahead and a bunch of big fish still waiting to be caught!
