Hello again everyone, this is Catch em Cathy from Aquatic Arts Fishing Pro Shop. Well, thunderstorms were on the forecast, but we seem to have lucked out with some beautiful, sunny weather during the daytime hours these past couple of days. The Northern Pike bite has been hot this week and we can expect it to remain that way through the weekend. Anglers have been catching some really nice sized pike on tandem spinnerbaits along the weed edges. A 36"er and a 32"er were brought into the shop yesterday, along with a handful of smaller sized pike, 20-25 inchers. Mepps Timberdoodle weedless spoons work great for these toothy critters, as well as Topwater frogs if you are fishing around a lot of thick weeds. The smallmouth bass bite has been strong on most all area lakes. Manns Baby 1 Minuses and Storm Sub-Warts have been the hot ticket. These crankbaits have a fat body , which creates a wide wobble just beneath the surface of the water, as they only dive up to 12 inches. They work awesome when casted around stumps or weedbeds, 3-5 ft of water. Largemouth Bass have been active as well, but they seem to prefer rubber worms such as Powerbait 7" Power Worms or Gulp Alive Shaky Worms. Fish in and around Lily Pads and Weedbeds, 3-8ft of water. They have also been hitting steadily on Spinnerbaits and Jitterbugs in a variety of colors. Walleyes have been a bit hard to find these past couple of days, as they seem to be one of the most sensitive fish when it comes to fluctuating weather patterns. In the morning hours anglers have had a bit of luck fishing along the newly emerging cabbage weeds with leeches or crawlers on an 1/8oz jighead. During the evening hours and after dark, Rapala original Floaters, size 7-11 have been producing some keeper walleyes when casted around the same weedy areas, fish 4-8ft of water. Bluegills and Perch have been hanging around weed beds and in the bays, 2-4 ft of water. A piece of baby crawler or leaf worm on a small jig works best!! Also, Bro's Bloodworms and small fuzz-e-grubs have been hot for the perch!! It's hard to name just a few lures for each species of fish as there are so many great lures on the market these days! Stop in to Aquatic Arts and see them all for yourself.
