Yes, they are active.....however, a LONG way from spawn.....plastics are best for me....got about 25 last night on an area lake...

I concur to what you're doing... Sunday night in 4-6' of water over the old and some new cabbage we used minnows, but also casted a bobber with a pink shrimpo/white body (partner a pink/white cubbie) and caught as many and perhaps bigger with the plastics. Fish averaged 7-8" topping out at 9". Kept a dozen to clean and will fish another lake looking for a little bigger fish to do the tango with!!! Better in the late afternoon once the water has warmed. Most of the water we were on was 55-56*.
