I was thrilled to get out with our local DNR the other day and check nets with them. The nets proved to be in good locations throughout the system, yielding several game fish which included muskies, walleyes, crappies and bluegill. Along with these fish we found tons of catfish and carp along with some white suckers and white bass.

All muskies captured had the work up done on them. Part of the anal ray was removed, the right vent fin was clipped and all muskies received a pit tag. Muskies over 45-inches received a tag place in the belly. On this tag is a phone number and tag number. If you catch one of these muskies, call the number on the tag and give the tag number, size of fish, time of year and location. I’ll be putting a video together explaining all this.

An overview of the day…we ended up with 17 muskies. Sizes ranged from 35 to 47-inches. Some muskies were releasing eggs, some were done. Some slot walleyes, 20 to 27-inches, several undersize. We ended up with a ton of nice crappies, white bass and bluegill. What I found really surprising was all the catfish. There’s more catfish in this system than I realized and some big ones.

I’d like to “thank” Justine and her team for a GREAT day.
