The walleye fishing is in full stride on the Detroit River as anglers are catching them on both the Ont and Mich side of the river. The Ont side has had good water clarity and many are fishing from Peche Island and the way past Fighting Island with limits coming in the boat by many. Got to see a number of anglers releasing the big spawning females. I have been using a number of plastics on which include Bio bait minnows, and Ringworms in pumpkinseed, motor oil or grape colors. Can't really give any specific depths as fish have been coming from 5-50 feet down. A number of smaller 15-20" walleye have been coming out of the deeper water.
This wk April 8-10 the FLW is in town so look for a number of 40lbs bags coming from these pros who will mostly hit the Mich side of Lake Erie and troll cranks. A good lake bite is coming from Breast Bay to Luna Pier for those looking to avoid the crowds on the Detroit River. Cranks, like Reef Runners and Husky Jerks have been the go to bait in various colors.
Perch fishing is also going well on Lake Erie from Colchester to Leamington on the Ont side of Lake Erie. Perch rigs and minnows always seem to get the job done. It can be tough finding fish but once you do the reward will quickly be seen.
