I had the privilege of mentoring a young lady today (Emma) who was a recent graduate of hunter's safety. The program pairs a young hunter with a caller and "shooting" mentor and allows the hunter to shoot a hen, jake, or tom. With my father in law doing the mentoring while I called, Emma's dad Scott was treated with watching his daughter see a Tom 40 yards away and then having a hen walk 6 yards away from her. Although she wasn't able to pull the trigger, she certainly caught the fever and hopefully is hooked on becoming a turkey hunter. This is a great program that lets the young hunters use their new skills, gives them a chance to hopefully bag a turkey but more importantly starts them out on the right path to being true outdoor stewards.
