Ice conditions are generally good in the Eagle River area, but
caution is strongly urged *
Northern are putting on a strong bite, with action
ranging from good to excellent. Fish 7 to 15 feet of water in and around
weeds. Use a medium to large shiner under a tip up. All day bite.
Walleye have generally moved out over mud flats.
Fish 20-35 feet deep and stay close to the bottom. Use a small shiner or
walleye sucker under a tip up. Also a jigging spoon tipped with a fathead
has been producing well. Some ice anglers reporting walleye are hitting
small shiners in 7-12 feet of water around weed clumps. Evening bite (sunset
and after) is best, with anglers getting a walleye here-and-there during the
day.
Crappies, bluegills and perch are hanging in the same general spot in the
Eagle River area.
Fish mud flats (walleyes and panfish have moved out and away from shallower
weed areas for the most part), in 15 to 25 feet of water. The crappies and
the bluegills are suspending up .and down the water column, while the perch
are close to the bottom, along with the walleye. For crappies, and gills
use a crappie. minnow or a waxie. For the perch a crappie minnow, waxie or
wiggler are all working. Action can be very good, but be prepared to move
around and definitely use a flasher. For all fish, there's a mixed bag on
sizes.
