A concerned musky fisherman just sent this to me over the weekend. This PA Fishing Report managed to make its' way to the PFBC site. Very perplexing to say the least. Hopefully, this will be changed in the very near future.

Forest County

Allegheny River – Anglers are catching musky and
northern pike at the Tionesta Sand and Gravel Boat Launch. Anglers
reported catching several musky a day. Anglers should consider keeping
some of the musky 40 inches or longer in this area.

I seen that also on there web sight, i really did not like seeing that. I just hope no one reads that, and does it. I am not sure what can be done about that.

Red, I found out about this on Fishusa site and the hunting pa site. I sent 6 emails to every region telling them that this is horrible after all the efforts to practice c@r. I also talked to Jack Tubbs at the outdoor expo on saturday. I emailed him and he is going to get it to the executive director in harrisburg. The more emails that are sent the better we are. I could not believe what I was reading. Dale Wiley was gonna talk to Joe Houck at the banquet and try to get ahold of Larry Hines. The more bitching we do the better off we are for them not posting something so stupid again. I also showed Crash and Justin Mullins at the show and they couldnt believe it also. If I lived closer I would go down there and drive my boat around in circles trying to get the fish to move to a less accessible eddie. Maybe throw some trees in so it was harder to fish and let the dog take a swim. Dropping the 20 pound anchor in about 50 times might also help. If anyone knows of someone to contact please do. Joe M

At least once a day I say to myself...
"It's amazing our civilization doesn't implode under the weight of it's own stupidity"

This is just another fine example. Un-freakin' believable.

Wow that's rediculous!!! I emailed the guy that compiled the report and also called the executive director number. I'll let you all know of any response.

Just emailed Dave Miko Chief Biologist for the Fish Commission and let him know how disappointed I am with them not stressing catch & release for any size Musky. I will let you know if I get a response.

Well I got a call back from the Executive Director office and they told me to call Al Woomer. I left him a message but he never called back but I see that they took the part about harvesting muskies off the report. I'd really like to know whose idea it was to put that up in the first place.

I just checked there site again. They removed the part about suggesting anglers keep some muskys over 40". I sent out 9 emails to every person that had an email on that site and havent heard back from one of them. I better make sure I have every thing I need when I fish the upper river this year as they now have a Bullseye marked on my boat!! Thanks to everyone else who emailed or called. I hope this BS never happens again. Thanks Joe M

It will be hard for them to find you since we do not have a full-time guy in Warren County and the Tionesta guy is continuously split between different bodies of water. This is not a knock on the PFBC but just a factual observation.

Kinda like the Wild West around here for the past 2 years.

They won't answer you, because in their eyes, since it's legal to keep a 40 inch musky, there is nothing wrong with that.

I wonder if any of those reports have ever stated, "come on down to Lake X and harvest as many bass, walleye or trout you can since we are catching them right and left?"

As much as I want to see every ski released, I realize some will be harvested and if they are over 40 it's the anglers right to do that if they want. I just never thought the F&BC would tell you exactly where to go for the "hot bite" and encourage keeping them. Red's right, you will never see this kind of report geared toward other species so why did this happen?

Just heard back from Dave Miko from PAF&B and he had the remarks removed.
Thanks Dave

Red, The 2 guys I always see up that way are the old guy with the wad of chew in his mouth and the Built guy. I bs with them every time I see them. I dont think they had nothing to do with this report being posted. Those 2 guys are very nice and promote safety on the lake and river. The game commission up there is a whole different story!! Just hope to never see this posted again. The poat should of read anglers are catching pike and muskys on the Allegheny river in Tionesta. I hope we didnt loose to many fish from being kept because of this report.

Has anyone been done there fishing lately to check on this report or talked to anyone. I also fish in he area quite a bit and was disgusted to see that post. Thier is a paper in Pgh where on Friday a " Fishing report " is in the sports section. All you need to do is send in what you caught and it''s posted, no verification at all, just wondering the validity! I've seen the same reports in the paper on another site.

I understand that you can tell the Post Gazette you caught 20 muskies in 5 hrs and they will post it. The thing that was bothering us Musky nuts was that on the Pa fish commission web site they encouraged keeping the muskys that were 40" or bigger. Bad enough they gave the exact location where the Muskys were staging. They have since pulled the Post but I got the water BOILING!!! We need the water temps to go up anyhow.....
