The Cold weather is coming back, but the good new is the fishing has been great in the area. Travel remains good in most areas, but caution is still advised.
Ice thicknesses in the area remain in the 4-6 inch range for good clear ice with anywhere from 4-10 inches of frozen slush on top. Snow on the ice is minimal so travel by foot or ATV/Snowmobile is good. Not recommending truck traffic yet although there has been a few out on specific lakes.
Walleye remains hot with most fish coming from 15 feet or less out side of the weeds. Small to medium Shiners or Suckers are working under tipups. Jigging is also working in the same depth range. Best time has been around sunset and also around sunrise.
Northern Pike have been hitting through out the day medium to large Shiners under a tipup have been the best with large Sucker minnows working too.
Bluegills and Crappie have been hitting in the deeper water for me. Fish 20 to 40 feet of water look for fish to be suspending anywhere in the water column. In some cases they have been holding need cribs or brush piles. Waxies and small minnows have been working for both.
Perch have been a little slow but some fish are being caught in the same areas as the Walleye, 15 feet of water or less outside of weeds. Waxies and Wigglers have been working along with small minnows.
As always stay mobile and use your electronics to locate fish.
Good luck to all.
