Misery Bay/North Shore-After two weeks since total ice over(12/5), there is only 3" solid ice, but atleast the snow cover has compacted somewhat. Many areas of slush are still prevelant under the snow. Some areas are still one to two pokes with the spud to break thru. One 22" 'eye taken this afternoon. Hoping that we get some major cold before much more snow cover. Fishing has been relatively lethargic for the early ice time. Still getting water flooding the area by the holes making it difficult to keep the tip-ups from getting froze in. Observed a shack and an ATV a ways out off the west shore today- someone is tempting fate. One guest broke thru, one leg, by Long point this afternoon, luckily in only 2 fow. Best advice for now is to only walk out and make sure you have checked the thickness before venturing too far. It can vary. Be cautious!
The photo shows the conditions last Sun. which haven't changed much. To the left is one pressure crack that saturates the snow making for the slush formation.

It's starting to look a lot like Christmas!!! But I'm waiting for June! The countdown to "Hopalooza '10" has already started down here...
